Position Summary:

 

The Assistant Principal at ISI is a step into a leadership position.  This position will call for someone who will be teaching part-time and will be assisting the building principal in organizing and fostering a positive, safe environment that is conducive to best meeting the needs of all students, staff, and parents. This includes such responsibilities as leading, directing, counseling and supervising a variety of personnel and programs; creating effective parent, teacher and child relationships, encouraging, mentoring and evaluating staff; fostering teamwork between teachers and among staff and parents. The assistant principal acts in the capacity of the principal during the principal's absence from the school. 

 

Responsibilities:

  1. Instructional Leadership 
  • Assist as directed by the principal in monitoring teachers with instructional practices specific to lesson plans, classroom management, and grade policies.
  • Represent the building administrative team on school district committees as assigned.
  • Coordinate student teachers and other university observers within the building as assigned.
  • Assist on a weekly basis plan. 
  1.     Staff Personnel
  • Assist in the process of interviewing, evaluating and selecting new staff members.
  • Assists in the determination of staff needs.
  • Assists in working with individual staff needs as assigned.
  • Coordinate the revision of the teacher handbook as assigned.
  • Coordinate teacher, mentorship in-services.                  
  1.   Curriculum Development
  • Oversee new course proposal process as requested.
  • Coordinate, Organize and publish Course Selection Handbook annually as assigned.
  • Manage Student course registration through guidance as assigned.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the development of building master schedule: courses, sections, and teacher schedules as assigned.
  • Assists with and/or coordinates inspections and visitations by State or National Educational agencies as assigned.
  1. Pupil Personnel
  • Assist in the planning and implementing of programs for the health, safety, and welfare of the students in the building.
  • Supervises extra and co-curricular activities in the school in the direction of the school principal.
  • Enforces and establishes disciplinary procedures which allows due process to the rights of students; familiarizes students, staff and parents with the disciplinary procedures; hears and acts on behavior problems referred to the principal's office supervises the personnel responsible for the in-school suspension and Saturday school; compiles the annual discipline report; revises annually the student handbook assigned by the building principal.
  • Establish attendance procedures which allow due process to the rights of students; familiarizes students, staff and parents with the attendance procedures; hears and acts on attendance problems referred by attendance personnel as assigned by the building principal.
  • Supervises the school's guidance and health programs; establishes and maintains procedures for the transition of students entering and leaving the school; establishes and maintains the school health program including up-to-date health records; plans and supervises all emergency preparedness programs including fire and tornado drills as assigned by the building principal.    
  • Coordinate special academic programs and award programs as assigned.
  1. Public Relations
  • Assists in the communication between the school and the community.
  • Assists in working with the civil authorities.
  • Serves as a liaison under the guidance of the principal.
  • Assist in the development and presentation of parent information and conference evening programs as assigned by the building principal.     
  1. Resource Management
  • As assigned by the building principal, monitors the maintenance of the school and school facilities; assists in the security of the building; assists in the supervision of the classified employees; monitors yearly inventories of all textbooks and school equipment; approves all work and maintenance orders; coordinates all facility usage and rental.      

 

    

Education/Training (Requisite Skills and Training):

 

  • Strong decision-making, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Advanced skill in dealing with students and staff with diverse needs at various levels.
  • Knowledge of varied instructional strategies, how to support the needs of diverse learners, delivery methods, assessment and staff development techniques for improvement of instruction.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of and ability to develop, monitor and evaluate discipline plans and supervision/safety plans.
  • knowledge of understanding of adolescent physical, emotional and intellectual development.
  • Ability to promote and follow Board and Administrative policies and building and department procedures.
  • Ability to communicate, interact and work effectively and cooperatively with all people, including those from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds. Ability to contribute to cultural diversity for educational enrichment.
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
  • Excellent interpersonal relations and oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from parents, administrators, community stakeholders.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Standard First Aid and CPR certificate.

    Essential Functions:

  • Assists the principal in the discharge of his/her duties at all times and acts in the capacity of the principal during the principal's absence from the school.
  • Assists in the orientation of new staff members to the teaching environment at the school, especially as it relates to the area of students, personnel policy and procedures and general building practices.
  • Support teachers who have students with behavior problems.
  • Assists the principal with developing and managing the implementation of Human Resources Policies.
  • Assists in the implementation of the school's non-instructional/operational policies and practices.
  • Maintain accurate student attendance records and strives to promote good student attendance.   
  • Assists with student orientation; counseling; discipline; due process; data gathering; student recognition; and securing student services with outside agencies. Cooperate with the School Resource Officer (SRO), the juvenile court system and social service agencies.
  •  Assumes responsibility for implementing discipline procedures as stated in the Student Handbook. Develops innovative strategies, preventative approached, and proactive plans for students who exhibit at-risk behaviors.
  • Acts in a supportive role with the principal in work with parents, teachers and the community to promote the effective flow of communications and ensure positive relations with the parents, business leaders, and community members. Listens and responds to parent concerns with sensitivity. Conducts parent and student meetings and attends all after-school activities.
  • Promotes good school-parent relationships when discussing specific student problems with the parents. Assists in organizing parent conferences, back to school nights and other times when staff is available to parents to discuss their child's learning and behavior.
  • Works with teachers and students to promote building maintenance and cleanliness. Assists in the supervision of custodial staff; creating and implementing safety and crisis response plans; maintaining facility and equipment.
  • Organizes and directs cafeteria supervision during lunch periods. Works in conjunction with the principal in supervising all school activities field trips, orientation programs, assemblies, plays, and other special events.
  • Supports substitute teachers in carrying out their duties.
  • Supervises administrative detention for students.
  • Assists in the promotion of positive school climate and staff morale through recognition programs and honoring those who excel.
  • Promotes school safety by implementing safety drills for fire, lockdown, etc. provides first aid and CPR if needed.
  • Conducts search and seizures, works with law enforcement and enforces District discipline policies.  
  • Well-versed in Islamic Knowledge. Fluency in English, with Arabic being a plus.

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States. The successful candidate must be able to pass a background check and drug test.
